SPRING YIN YOGA SEQUENCE — Invoke Creative Wisdom

Intention…

Shift your mindset and energy to invite creativity and new beginnings into your life.

This Yin Yoga sequence to welcome spring is perfect for…

Yin Yoga instructors or anyone who wishes to deepen their Yin Yoga practice and magnify creative wisdom in their lives.

As we enter a new cycle and season of spring, we begin to mimic nature where old layers are shed, and we transition into a phase of growth, expansion and evolving into something new.

This is a very creative stage.

But we can only be truly creative and uncover new ideas and inspiration when we are completely present.

Otherwise, our minds are living in the exhausted past, or distant as we anticipate the future.

New ideas and opportunities cannot be born into the past, or the future, you can only create within the now.

Consciousness exists in the gaps between each thought.

It is within this space that the creative mind is born.

Meditation…

With this centring thought in mind, you may like to journey into a resting awareness meditation.

In this meditation, there is no particular point of focus such as visualising an image, a mantra or a breath pattern.

You simply rest in awareness, pure consciousness.

Perhaps set a timer or find a peaceful song as you maintain awareness for the next 1–3 minutes.

In this space, you can become a conduit or a vessel for spirit, wisdom, and inspiration to flow through you… expanding your creative energy.

Yin Sequence…

Supine Chest Opening

  • Bolster horizontal across the mat, placed underneath the back of your heart. You can find butterfly legs or knock your knees in together, feet wide.

Toe Stretch (five breaths)

  • Rest in a kneeling position with your toes tucked under

  • This shape stimulates the starting point of liver and gallbladder meridians, which begin through the soles of your feet and support your body’s natural digestion and detoxification process.

Supported Tadpole

  • Place the Bolster vertically along your Mat.

  • Come into a prone position, lying on the bolster.

  • Your hips can be gently dropped off the edge of the bolster to encourage a subtle, rounding and softening of your lower back. Your head may be placed on the backs of your hands or a prop.

Half Cow

  • From a seated position, extend your left leg forward. Your right leg will cross over your left thigh, bringing your outer right ankle to the ground, heel close to outer hip. If your hips allow, then try to stack your knees.

  • Add in props for support or keep the right sole of your foot on the ground if your hips or knees feel uncomfortable.

(Repeat on both sides)

Half Lord of The Fishes Pose

  • From Half cow, place the sole of your foot (of your top leg) to the ground, keeping your legs crossed. Lengthen your spine to the sky and twist towards your top leg, either hugging your knee or placing your opposite elbow towards the outer thigh to deepen twist.

(Repeat on both sides)

Savasana

… in the gaps between each thought is where pure Consciousness lies. This is the space and the foundation of all creativity.

“There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human recourse of all. Without creativity there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns.”

— Edward de Bono
